American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences

The American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences (ARA) was established in 1975 in California by a distinguished group of Romanian scholars and academics residing in the United States.  Since its inception, ARA has honored esteemed intellectuals among its Honorary Members, including renowned writers Eugen Ionesco and Virgil Gheorghiu, philosopher Mircea Eliade, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine Prof. George E. Palade, and Romanian astronaut Dr. Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu. While some of these distinguished members are no longer with us, their academic and cultural legacy continues to inspire ARA, its members, and the broader scholarly community.
